I'd like it more if it was free and only a skill point or something like that. Becuase if you think of it, you're not really buying the skill, your buying something to help you get the skill. You still have to do all the work.

For those people saying go buy skills at their current cost (normally 1k), how many characters do you have? Of those, how many are PvE.

How long did it take you to get all of your skills unlocked via balth faction? Wasn't it nice you can access all of those lovely new skills on all of your PvP characters?

Whatever your reason to PvP is, you will get the benefit of the balth faction which allows you the ability to obtain new skills (runes, and upgrades of course) for the low cost of faction.
Sure PvE'ers obtain gold during their travels, but is it that much really? Maybe I don't want 4 eles, one for each element, just to reduce costs. And does that take into account secondary skills and builds?

Some of the unsigned comments are funny but valid concerns, i admit. But there are morons everywhere and when you take a PuG you take chances anyways and theres a skill call out function if you really are picky about it (i understand it troublesome to use it and still prone to last min change).

However a good idea should not be missed just because morons may misuse it. A simpler much easier implementation with the same effect would be to either allow the current skill buying as it is, or allow skills to be bought with less/no gold but at a higher skill point cost (Not sure about others, but i have on average 150+SP each toons siting there taking up sapce).

But otherwise, /signed for Alternative skills acquisition (Just wanted to point out that Hero skill trainers were a good addition in NF.)

Edit:

Makkert, unfortunately i have to disagree with you. I dont believe buying skills, unlike vanity armour or weapons skins should be a gold sink, since experimentation of builds even in the PvE is a intended feature of the game (I agree no one need 100% skills in both PvE or PvP to be effective) hence should not be treated as such. There is nothing wrong with players who want to pimp their character out in an attempt to be more "skilled" in the game.(pun intended) Further more theres no bragging rights to having more non Elite skills unlike titles or vanity armour hence the concept only exist for personal satisfaction and more options to choose from, which i dont see as a bad thing for this game or any other game for that matter.

Revival bump.

So what's the total in-game obtainable skill count at right now? Around 1500 right (10 classes with approx 150 skills each)? Let's just say 1000.
So 1000 skills times 1 skill point plus 1k coins to complete one character. Say common builds use 300 or so skills. That's per character too.

If you do the math, the numbers can get quite high.

There are 1134 skills in the game (not counting the Sunspear and Lightbringer skills).
Core: 240
Prophecies: 214
Factions: 330
Nightfall: 350

For one complete character, it will cost around 1.1 million gold to obtain all skills on a single character. Cost should come to about the same as income since in order to get that many skill points, you're going to be xp farming quite a bit.

For the same reasons stated above. Besides, most common skills can be acquired through quests/trainers. Unless you're dirt broke, I'd rather buy Barbed Trap from Joe Schmoe for 1k instead of buying a LSoC from him and then looking for a boss that uses traps.

there's really no point to it lol
1k isn't that much for a skill, and anet has more important things to work on... id hate for them to waste time implementing something thats not going to be extremely useful

I really like the idea, but the execution is lacking. What if people in my pug are taking out half their skills for these minor cap skills? What if they are taking out all of their skills?

Don't Pug? Ask for a ping?

I'd rather something like, you can only take 2 with you max... or have them take up inventory slots (and be customized to you) so they don't spoil the bar. When you cap the skill, the diologue pops up asking if you want to sub out a skill. 500g would be worth this.

You can still do this cap non elites with an SoC that is in game now.The only way the price would come down is if non elites are at 500g maxed instead of 1K.

Or they could just go back to the original idea, which benefited PvE and PvP players alike...

Skills as quest rewards!

Lost count of how many skills were in the game, asked around. Many answered with 1500. That's why I put down 1000 anyway.

How long would it take to obtain 1000 skill points? 15 000 000 exp seems a bit much. And not using the normal capture method which provides 5k to 10k exp back.

Maybe even another way to obtain skills. Why not let us use balth faction to buy non-elite skills for PvE chars? Practically the same thing as using it for PvP chars.

As for skill trainers, I doubt they will bring them in for the chapters which are already released. And most likely will keep the base trainers like chapter 2 and 3 for the future.

Ending bump.
So now that we have skill tomes. What do people think of them in comparison? Seems tomes are far more powerful than a lesser capture signet.

I've seen many normal tomes going for less than 1k (a bunch for 500). Aside from the unlock and cost of the book: The skill we choose apears instantly. We can make a new char and have an end area elite in seconds.

In closing, well, don't need to say anything now really. The tomes give a good alternative to buying skills for 1k, and their prices keep dropping.

Add rare 'capture tomes' dropped by both normal and hard mode enemies.

Using them would give you a free capture signet.

That would be nice.

C'mon, Tomes are rare enough already (unless you farm HM, which means you need the money to get the skills and a farming build, crappy or not). If it's a problem because of them, I think the price could go as much as 900g. Though I'd vote for 750g.

By the way, I'm ready to bet anything most people with enough money anyway will still by them at 1k just to save the trouble of FINDING and KILLING said boss for the skill. Seriously, look at the boss's skill bar, they rarely have more than 6 skills. You would still need to do a lot of work (as in : go far enough) just to find the boss.

500g sounds good and it will make us go and capture a skill. Maybe it caps at 500g so we can purchase at the normal prices untill you reach 500g which it will cap. Also what if people dont want to do zaishen challenge and dont have Nightfall??? hun?

Thats the attitude i can't stand

It's called evolution when it happens in real life, if people said pah sod evolving/releasing my findings i had to work it all out why should the next people get it easier we would all be in caves or as some single celled organism that said "i don't care if more cells would make it easier for the next lot i've only had one"

Metaphores aside you do realise you are speaking from the point of view of the past back when you could make huge sums of money
And now new players can't make any money (thanks Anet) you want them to suffer for it just because you did an easier version of this??

EDIT in all this ranting about that . . . i almost forgot
/signed alot for a way PvE players can have skills
PvP now get skins why can't we have skills?
